Machrihanish is an Old Tom Morris design and for getting on for 150 years visitors have made the long trip to the Kintyre Peninsula to revel in its natural and unique topography. But unless you took a fast boat - more of which later - or caught a flight from Glasgow, it was always a long way to go for a round of golf. Now, though, leading architect David McLay Kidd and his team have uncovered another wonderful links course alongside the white-sand beaches to the north of Machrihanish.

Construction has been completed on the first of the fractional ownership cottages at Machrihanish Dunes in Scotland, and the developers are offering two-night "Discovery Packages" for prospective buyers. The try before you buy deal includes two nights' accommodation and a round of golf on the resort's renowned links course, for the promotional price of £139, subject to availability.
Another tale of great winter golf in Scotland! I must be doing something right. In the second week of February on a glorious day with a blue sky and a shimmering ocean, I recently played 36 holes of golf at the recently opened and strongly acclaimed Machrihanish Dunes, and also the much loved Dunaverty.
The unique Machrihanish Dunes Golf Course in the site of Special Scientific Interest on the west coast of the Mull of Kintyre has completed some of the two-bedroom cottages that are part of the accommodation available with this exciting and beautiful golf complex. As part of a programme to introduce the cottages to prospective 'freehold fractional owners', the development company has just announce a two-night Discovery Package.

Legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus was hard at work during a recent appearance at Creighton Farms. Nicklaus began his recent visit with a two-hour tour of the Creighton Farms course, during which he assessed every aspect of its design, setup, and condition. With the same intense concentration and attention to detail that made him an 18-time major champion, Nicklaus offered suggestions on everything from mowing patterns to fairway widths and even used a special iPhone application to determine that the slope on one of the greens might benefit from a one-inch adjustment. The golf legend went over every shot on every hole and outlined several new teeing positions with an eye toward making the course more playable and enjoyable for the average player- a theme that Nicklaus spoke to again and again during his visit.
A press conference was held with Jack Nicklaus and Creighton Farms owners David Southworth and Joseph Deitch, Partners of Southworth Development of Newton Massachusetts. Mr. Nicklaus took the time to answer questions on the condition and design of the course, remarking: "this is a remarkably strong golf course. They could hold the U.S. Open here. It's a golfer's golf course for the individual who enjoys playing the game not only because it will be fair and fun, but that it will test your mettle."
