Southworth Development LLC is a privately held company specializing in the development of residential resort and hospitality-branded real estate. Founded by David Southworth, Southworth Development’s expertise includes master-planned community development; asset management; golf course construction management; resort, hotel, golf, spa, fitness and country club management; and related sales and marketing services.
Having spent 15 years as President and CEO of Willowbend Development LLC, David Southworth helped create a diversified real estate development company with Paul Fireman, Founder and former Chairman and CEO of Reebok, Ltd. In 2005, David and Paul decided to amicably split into two separate companies, leading to the formation of Southworth Development LLC.
In the transaction, certain existing assets were marketed for third party sale, other assets remained with Willowbend, and Southworth Development was formed to hold other assets, continue the golf construction and golf operations businesses of Willowbend, as well as to provide investment, asset management, project development and marketing services to new developments.
Today, through Southworth’s wholly owned subsidiaries, Southworth Golf Management and Southworth Golf Construction (formerly Willowbend Golf Management and Willowbend Golf Construction, respectively), Southworth is extremely active in the national resort and golf development community, have served as investor, manager, marketing and sales consultant or construction manager to dozens of properties throughout the United States, The Caribbean and Europe.
Current Southworth development projects include Meredith Bay, a 400+-acre residential development on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire; Machrihanish Dunes, an 18-hole David McLay Kidd oceanside links course alongside 150 residential units and two hotels in Machrihanish, Scotland; and the Coco Beach Golf & Country Club, a 1,000+-acre 36-hole oceanfront Tom Kite-designed golf facility in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
In partnership with Paul Fireman, David and Willowbend acted as developer, asset manager and/or golf operator for numerous residential resort projects, including the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Country Club in Tucson, Arizona; Willowbend Country Club in Mashpee, Massachusetts; The Westin Rio Mar Beach Resort & Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico; and Liberty National Golf Club and Residences in Jersey City, New Jersey.
